How
and Why Skip La Cour And AST Sports Science Teamed Up
 It
all started with a phone call that company president Paul Delia had to answer
because there weren’t enough operators to handle AST Sports Science’s
business load that day . . .
That’s
how Paul Delia and Skip La Cour initially came in contact with each other back
in late-1993. The rest, as they say, is history!
Over the last
eight years, they
have joined forces to create an incredible team that has redefined the
expectations of bodybuilders around the world.
With Delia’s incredible
knowledge and expertise in the areas of training, nutrition, and especially
sports supplementation and La Cour’s burning desire and passion for
bodybuilding, they’ve set new benchmarks in physique development.
The
very next year, La Cour splashed onto the national scene as his Musclemania
victory played dozens of times on ESPN national television. In 1995, he won the
Heavyweight class at the NPC Team Universe and became a member of the United
States Bodybuilding team who competed in the IFBB World Amateur Championships in
Guam.
Lured
away from AST Sports Science by supplement-giant Twinlab, La Cour then suffered a couple
of less-than-impressive years. Although the opportunity landed him lead writer
status for Twinlab’s All Natural Muscular Development magazine and
a starring role in a national television commercial, La Cour came in
second-place in the ’96 Team Universe and a disappointing fifth-place in
’97. He even failed to make the top-15 at the 1997 NPC USA Bodybuilding
Championships.
Coincidence?
Skip La Cour surely doesn’t think so. This is what he has to say about his
relationship with Paul Delia and AST Sports Science in a magazine interview
after re-signing with AST in June of 1998:
“Good
supplementation is critical to the success of any natural bodybuilder. Whichever
company I have represented, I have been faithful to using their products. Very
rarely (if ever) did I go out and buy someone else’s product when I could have gotten it
for free. Fortunately, three very good companies have sponsored me.
However,
I was at my all-time best when I won the Musclemania in ‘94 and the NPC Team
Universe in ’95. In that time period, I used AST Sports Science supplements.
All I can say to those who are understandably skeptical about me endorsing AST

years and notice the improvements I will make.”
Those
words turned out to be quite prophetic. La Cour, just a few months after teaming
up with Delia again, shocked the bodybuilding world by winning the overall title
at the 1998 NPC Team Universe in New York City. La Cour's tremendous muscularity
and awesomely shredded
condition has redefined the standards of drug-free bodybuilding.
