I know this may sound a little bit "sadistic" but I love the feeling I have when I drag myself out of the gym after an absolute "kick-ass" workout!

Do you know the feeling that I’m talking about? The feeling of appreciation you have when you have just completed training hard, heavily, intelligently, and with total passion? That special time when you are 100 percent certain that today’s workout got you at least one step closer to reaching your ambitious goals for developing your physique!

Man, I look forward to that feeling! Don’t you?

But you know something? This is not the appropriate time to be satisfied! I don’t care how great my workout was, that was just a minute part of the muscle building process.

I know what you guys are probably saying to yourselves right now: What the heck are you talkin’ about, La Cour? Are you crazy?! I just pushed my body to the limit. I faced my fears and put myself under some heavy weight! Nobody in my gym trains like I do--and you have the nerve to tell me that’s just a ‘minute part’ of the muscle-building process?! Not the ‘appropriate time,’ huh! You’re nuts, you bald-headed muscle-bound intellectual egghead!"

Whoa! Settle down for a moment, Tiger! Let me explain:

Although training heavily and with intensity is an important step that must be taken to earn muscle mass, it’s only the beginning of the process.

You see, what you do to help your body rebuild itself and grow after that awesome workout is significantly more important than the workout itself.

I realize as I’m walking out to my car after an outstanding workout that the next 22-23 hours of my day are critical to packing on the size I’m determined to get. So critical, I don’t start driving my car home until I have taken my post-workout supplements!

I see the guys at my gym sneaking a peek and trying to find out what "secret" supplements I’m taking that allows me to be so strong and get so big without steroids and other drugs. Well, I tell you what I take after each workout:

In the trunk of my car, I have a large plastic container (you know, the kind Rubbermaid makes) that carries my GL3 L-Glutamine and vitamins C, E, and A. I demand my body to start the recovery process immediately!

I take five grams of the GL3, 3,000 milligrams of vitamin C, 800 IU of vitamin E, and 50,000 IU of vitamin A. The GL3 improves the nitrogen balance in my muscles, counteracts the fall of protein synthesis, and spares the free glutamine in the tissue—all of which were "torn up" during my intense training session. I take the combination of vitamins C, E, and A to combat the free-radicals that were produced.

There is also one more key element to my well-planned, post-workout supplement regimen . . . AST Sport Science’s new VP2 Whey Protein Isolate! I take two servings in one quart of water. With each serving containing 24 grams of protein, I’m getting 48 grams of the most effective whey protein on the market today.

I can almost feel the protein permeate through my totally-drained body and rapidly feed my starving muscles!!!

The new VP2 tastes great and has a slightly different texture to my palate than any other advanced protein powder I’ve enjoyed in the past. It feels kind of "silky" as I drink each serving with water. VP2 is like no other protein on the market!

You and I hear outrageous claims from supplement companies about how great their products are all the time. I don’t know about you, but frankly, I’m more than a little jaded. I’m not sure who or what to believe.

One thing a supplement company must do before I even think about using their products is back up their claims with some heavily-researched science and preferably, some independent lab studies if they’re available. But when it all comes down to it, you and I basically must just take a "leap of faith" and hope and pray the company has enough integrity to fulfill their big promises. Those supplements aren’t cheap, you know!

But I can say, despite my skepticism, that VP2 is the best whey protein on the market. AST Sports Science has taken the effectiveness of whey protein up quite a few notches.

How can I speak with such certainty? How do I know for sure? Those are good questions! Well, I have been very fortunate to have developed a great relationship with Paul Delia, the president of AST Sports Science, since mid-1993. The man’s a genius when it comes to efficiently building muscle mass through training, nutrition, and supplementation.

Paul is the person that convinced me to switch to my one-body-part-a-week workout schedule that produced 17 drug-free pounds of muscle between 1994 and 1995 when I won the NPC Team Universe Heavyweight class and had the privilege to represent the USA on the five-man team that competed in the Mr. Universe contest. Since I published my routine in Ironman magazine back then, it seems like almost all natural bodybuilders have switched to this strategy.

But did you know that in 1992, Delia was the first person to bring whey protein into the bodybuilding market after studying its effectiveness in the pharmaceutical industry. Now every supplement company offers some form of whey protein.

That’s right! He introduced whey protein—-and every bodybuilder on the planet should be thanking Paul for his visionary application that is helping us grow! You’re getting exactly what you pay for because nobody can produced whey for what we can. Good quality whey is expensive. These companies that are selling it cheaply are offering their customers poor quality, ineffective whey protein."

I’m proud and glad to be back with Paul and AST Sports Science after my two-year stint away with another company. I can’t wait to show you my new and improved physique this year!

Delia is the person who is most responsible for the development of my physique over the last five years. He likes to keep a low-profile and not take credit for his accomplishments, but I’m getting him to change that way of thinking.

Why? Because there are a lot of natural bodybuilders who are deprived of important muscle-producing information. When traveling around the country, I can’t tell you how many times I see pretty good bodybuilders doing 15 sets or more for a single body part. Those are the same guys who mistakenly believe it’s impossible to build a good physique without drugs! They just don’t have the right strategies or beliefs.

As I communicate with bodybuilders at my seminars and on my web site(www.skiplacour.com), I’m amazed by the number of them who work so hard in the gym but have a very limited amount of knowledge and put too low of a priority on the execution of proper training, nutrition, and supplementation.

The science and research behind VP2’s effectiveness

Well, that explains why I have so much faith in AST Sports Science and its products, but what about the concrete science and research. You know, the facts?

"There are a lot of whey proteins on the market," Paul explained to me. "The difference in whey proteins vary tremendously from sweet dairy whey on up to an isolated whey. What’s unique about VP2 is that it’s an isolate—-but it’s a fractionalized isolate. There are approximately 12 different fractions of whey protein. The nano-filtration process that we use can actually specify the exact percentage of each fraction of whey to comprise the total protein."

"That’s what we’ve done with VP2," Paul continued. "We’ve isolated the more, let’s say, ‘potent’, or anabolic and higher nitrogen-retaining fractions from the whey in the percentages we wanted that the research shows that enhances nitrogen uptake," he concluded.

I can’t explain the difference in as much scientific detail as Paul, but I just feel bigger, fuller, and stronger all day long since I started using VP2. I believe I am doing everything I can to build the best drug-free physique I possibly can.

How to properly use VP2

If you were to only use VP2 twice a day, I would suggest taking one serving in the mid-morning and a double-serving immediately after your workout (assuming your workout is at night).

If you were to use VP2 three times a day, I would recommend taking one serving immediately after you wake up (that’s when your body is starving for protein after a long period without it while sleeping and will "soak it up" voraciously!), one in the mid-morning, and a double-serving immediately after your PM workout.

I take VP2 four times a day. If you were to use VP2 four times a day, I suggest taking one serving immediately after you wake up, one in the mid-morning, a double-serving immediately after your PM workout, and one serving before bed to shorten the time period you go without protein.

So if VP2 is twice as effective than regular, high-quality whey protein, why isn’t it twice the price?

"Just because something is twice as effective doesn’t mean it has to be twice the price," Paul clarified. "The price of a product is determined by the cost to produced it—-not by how much better it is. Look a computers today. They are at least 10 times more effective than they were as little as a couple of years ago. Are they 10 times the price? Certainly not."

Don’t wait another day without ordering VP2!
